The research outlines that the whole-child approach not only fosters all areas of children’s development and learning—literacy, math, and science understanding as well as social–emotional, and cognitive skills—but also lays the foundation for lifelong learning, ensuring that children are excited and engaged learners with positive approaches to learning. We cannot overlook or state strongly enough, the positive effect that the whole-child approach—this marrying of academic rigor and developmentally appropriate practice—has on children’s academic and social-emotional gains. Research continues to affirm that the whole-child approach increases not only school readiness, but also long-term school success.
